Nerea Martinez de Lecea is an award-winning interdisciplinary artist based in Wales who works predominantly in video and photography. Through her images, Nerea maps territories which lie within a realm of borderline experiences, where the foreign has become home and the well known has become strange.

Nerea’s work has been exhibited/screened internationally in galleries and cinemas such as the Saatchi Gallery (London), Arnolfini (Bristol), Yuchengco Museum (Manila), Nikolaj Kunsthallen (Copenhagen), and at festivals in Edinburgh, Toronto, Varna, Monaco and Taipei. Her work has also been featured in publications in the UK and the USA.

She was named as one of the ‘Fifty Exceptional Photographers’ by Artists Wanted (New York) in 2010, and won the Award for Fine Art that same year at the National Eisteddfod of Wales where members of the selection panel praised the “power” and “universality” of her work. In 2011, she made the Professional Shortlist in the Sony World Photography Awards, was a winner of The Commission (a UK national dance film competition) and produced the photographic book ‘A Country I Always Carry With Me’ with artist Julia Winckler. Nerea’s latest project is a film installation commissioned for Adain Avion, Wales’ major contribution to the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad and London 2012 Festival.
