The Unifiedfield will be giving a talk titled “On the edge of art / Dangerous narratives and the DIY paradigm”. This talk will focus on the importance of the self-organization as artists and independent artist-run-spaces as well as the personal artistic practices of the members of The Unifiedfield.

Marc Chia (Singapore, 1982), aka One Man Nation, is a musician with a background in media and sound art. Graduating in 2009 with a Master´s in Media Design from the Piet Zwart Institute in the Netherlands, he investigates social and psychological situations related to tradition and its progression, the future through the eyes of history, and spirituality in technology through the medium of sound and performance.

He currently splits his time between Europe and Asia where he is researching and developing The Future Sounds Of Folk in collaboration with Steim (Amsterdam) as well as co-directing with Marta Moreno Muñoz the experimental art space The Unifiedfield .

Past and current collaborations include but not limited to Pierre Bastien, Shaun Sankaran, C-drik Fermont, Dr Truna, Kato Hideki, Hilary Jeffrey, Richard Scott, Alfredo Genovesi, Soopa Collective, Iman Zimbot, Bambu Wukir and has performed internationally at the Guggenheim Museum (Bilbao), ISEA (Ruhr), Mapping (Geneva), Piksel (Bergen), MEM (Bilbao), STEIM Jamboree (Amsterdam), Makeart (Poitiers), Fete 0.1 (Orléans) and SummerLAB (Gijón) amongst others.

The last One Man Nation vinyl-only work was released on Austrian experimental music label Moozak in September 2010.

[16/03- 15/04 ] / The videoperformance Guggenheim, part of The Unifiedfield Exhibition at The Video Art Series on MOCA Plaza No. 9 [MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART] / [ Taipei, TW ]

In this video, the performer destroys a wardrobe full of VHS tapes labeled ‘Guggenheim’, first with an axe, followed by a ritualistic burning of the wardrobe and tapes. This work deals with the idea of the artist’s dissolution of her own narcissism, her contradicting sentiments towards her own practice and its conflicting relation with the ‘art institutions’.

* The video-performance Guggenheim, first in the series Destroying 2000 Years of Culture, was created for an alternative art festival that took place at the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao but was unfortunately censored by the direction of the museum a day before the scheduled screening on the 12th of May 2011.

The Future Sounds Of Folk attempts to use the diverse musical traditions of Indonesia as a starting point for the development of new and emerging amalgams of experimental / contemporary music. This project toured in the Netherlands from the 01st till the 20th of Dec 2011 at the Bimhuis (Amsterdam), Worm (Rotterdam), PK37 (Haarlem) and Paard Van Troje (Den Haag).
